Dr Zahra Faraji Rad is an Associate Professor in Mechanical Engineering at the University of the Sunshine Coast, based at the Moreton Bay campus. She holds a PhD in Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering and has developed a strong research profile in the fields of microfabrication, biomedical devices, and advanced manufacturing.
Dr Faraji Rad’s work focuses on the development of innovative medical devices, especially microneedle technologies for drug delivery and diagnostic applications. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges the fields of mechanical engineering and healthcare, aiming to deliver practical solutions to pressing medical challenges. She has led and collaborated on nationally and internationally funded research projects and has published widely in high-impact journals.
Alongside her research, she is deeply committed to teaching and mentoring students. She has supervised numerous undergraduate, honours, and postgraduate research projects, with a focus on nurturing innovation and critical thinking.
Before joining UniSC, Dr Faraji Rad held an academic position at the University of Southern Queensland and has maintained strong industry and research collaborations both in Australia and internationally.
She is also an advocate for women in STEM and actively participates in initiatives that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in engineering education and research.
