City of Moreton Bay will continue its Scholarship and Bursaries Program with the University of the Sunshine Coast, taking its investment in supporting UniSC’s Moreton Bay students to $1.1 million since the program was introduced six years ago.
In recognition of the cost-of-living pressures students face, Council has increased the 2026 bursary from $2,000 to $2,500.
Mayor Peter Flannery said Council couldn’t be prouder of the scholarship and bursary recipients, who have gone on to excel in their studies and careers.
“More than 70 percent of recipients who have completed their studies are now contributing to our local workforce in vital fields like nursing, education, psychology and social work,” he said.
Mayor Flannery said Council was committed to supporting more opportunities for residents to attend university and would continue to work with UniSC to boost local tertiary participation in the growing city.
UniSC Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Helen Bartlett, welcomed the increased and ongoing support of the program and encouraged eligible students to apply.
“City of Moreton Bay Council’s generous scholarships and bursaries encourage UniSC students to view university as an attainable goal and supports them to reach their full potential,” Professor Bartlett said.
“Students undertaking their studies at UniSC Moreton Bay campuses can use this opportunity to focus on their studies while building brighter futures for themselves and their community.
“The achievements of previous recipients show how much these scholarships and bursaries can genuinely change lives by easing the costs associated with study and placements.”
Since 2020, 47 scholarships and 44 bursaries have been provided to UniSC Moreton Bay students.
