Why are we collecting your personal information?
In applying to study at UniSC, we will need to collect certain personal information from you for certain purposes, including, to assess if you meet UniSC's entry requirements for your chosen program, facilitate your enrolment at UniSC, and, where applicable, assess whether you are likely to meet the Australian Government Department of Home Affairs' requirements for a Student visa.
During the application process, we may, where necessary to facilitate the assessment of your application and where applicable, subsequent enrolment at UniSC, share your personal information as set out below.
Failure to provide consent for the disclosure of your personal information may result in you not being able to submit your application to UniSC.
What personal information do we collect?
The types of personal information we collect about you, to assess your application, may include:
- name, date of birth, addresses, email address and telephone numbers
- academic history; transcripts and award certificates
- English language proficiency; English language test results
- identity documents; passport
And, where requested for the purposes of a genuine student assessment:
- immigration history, including visa notices and Confirmation of Enrolment documents
- financial documents, including bank statements, loan letters, tax documents, assess certificates
- employment details, including current employer, employment letters
- information about family members, including marriage certificates, relationship certificates
How do we collect your personal information?
We collect personal information about you in several ways, including from you directly, from someone you have engaged to act on your behalf (your education agent or your UniSC partner institution), or from an employee or contractor of UniSC.
How do we store your personal information?
Your personal information will be stored in UniSC systems, including third party IT systems, and by third party service providers, to assess your application and genuine student status and facilitate your enrolment at UniSC.
We take reasonable steps, and implement reasonable safeguards, to protect personal information that we hold. You can review information about Privacy at UniSC here and in the Privacy and Right to Information - Operational Policy and Privacy Management - Procedures.
UniSC student personal information is retained in accordance with the Queensland Government General Retention and Disposal Schedule and University Sector Retention and Disposal Schedule.
Who do we share your personal information with?
During the application process, it may be necessary for us to share your personal information. We will only disclose your personal information to any third party in accordance with this form and law. Below are the instances in which your personal information may be disclosed:
Education agents
UniSC appoints education agents to act as our representatives and to assist students with applying to UniSC. Where you have engaged the services of a UniSC education agent to act on your behalf and they have submitted your application to UniSC, information will be shared with the education agent relevant to your application and subsequent enrolment.
Partner institutions
If you are applying to UniSC under a mobility arrangement with a UniSC partner institution, information will be shared with the partner institution about your application and subsequent enrolment at UniSC.
Medibank
Where you have requested UniSC organise Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) on your behalf, your personal information will be disclosed to your preferred OSHC provider Medibank for the purpose of organising your OSHC policy.
Union Institute of Language (UIL)
If you have indicated in your UniSC application form that you want to meet UniSC's English language requirements for your chosen program via a UIL English language program, your information will be shared with UniSC's partner UIL for the purposes of providing you with information regarding enrolment at UIL.
Third Party
If you require a genuine student assessment on applying as an international student, and meet the below criteria:
- you receive a UniSC Conditional Offer, conditional on passing a genuine student assessment; and,
- you will lodge a Student visa application outside of Australia; and
- you are a citizen of an evidence level 2 or 3 country as specified by the Department of Home Affairs for the purposes of applying for a Student visa,
you information may be disclosed to a UniSC trusted contractor, based in India, engaged to perform genuine student assessment services on UniSC's behalf. Genuine Student assessments are part of the Australian Commonwealth government student visa process under the Migration Act 1968 (Cth) and related regulations, and UniSC's independent assessments support its international student enrolment processes.
Third Party IT Software
Third party IT software and cloud storage providers used to process and store information, including personal information, on behalf of UniSC for the purposes set out in this notice.
Internal UniSC departments
Where you have requested credit transfer, enrolment in a UniSC program with non-standard admission requirements, or your application requires subject matter expertise, your personal information may be shared with UniSC employees to progress your application.
Australian government departments
Your personal information is collected and shared with relevant Australian government departments in order to meet UniSC obligations under the ESOS Act and the National Code of Practice 2018. This information can be provided, without your consent, in certain circumstances authorised or required by law, to the Australian Government and designated authorities approved by the Government in accordance with the UniSC's Privacy and Right to Information - Operational Policy and Privacy Management - Procedures and where applicable, the Director of the Tuition Protection Scheme, pursuant to obligations under the Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) Act 2000 and the National Code 2018.
Do we disclose your personal information outside of Australia?
We may disclose your personal information to third parties outside of Australia for the purposes of assessing genuine student status. Please review 'Who do we share your information with' to view the circumstances in which this may occur.
How can you access and correct your personal information?
During the admissions process, you can contact UniSC International or UniSC's RTI/Privacy Officer to request access to your information or for it to be updated. You can contact us directly as set out below or via your nominated education (where applicable).
How do you provide consent?
When you submit your application to UniSC, you acknowledge you have read, understood and consent to the use, disclosure (including outside Australia where applicable) storage and/or processing of your personal information as set out in this notice and in UniSC's Privacy and Right to Information - Operational Policy and Privacy Management - Procedures.
