Cambodia Study Tour 2025 for Postgraduate Business Students

Join us for this one-week program visiting Cambodia, including Siem Reap, Angkor Wat and Phnom Penh. 

The entire program will involve:

  • A compulsory online pre-departure orientation session, and follow-up class before departure.
  • Students study MBA730 Contemporary and Emerging Issues in Business, which will include both guided and independent learning experiences online, and activities in international settings, held over eight days.
  • Approximately 20-30 hours dedicated to actively engaging in learning and assessment activities.
  • Pre-tour and post-tour assessment tasks to be completed which relate to the international experience.
  • Approximately 30 hours of experiential learning where students undertake a combination of company site, university and business institution visits and cultural experiences relevant to the destination.
  • Free time for students to explore Siem Reap and Phnom Penh on the first day and the last day of the program. 

The study tour is designed to be interactive, collaborative and reflective. The international experience will provide students with a greater understanding of how the business and cultural environment impacts on business and management decision making and how these insights can be transferred across international boundaries.

Key dates 

  • 22nd August 2025: Expressions of interest due date (can extend in exceptional circumstances please contact Dr Jane Menzies)
  • 8th October 2025: Compulsory in-person/online pre-departure orientation session, 6–8pm
  • 22nd October 2025: Compulsory in-person/online class 6-8pm to Present Assignment 1
  • 26th October 2025: Study Tour Begins, please arrive into Siem Reap by this date
  • 2nd November 2025 : Study Tour Ends. You may Depart Phnom Penh at any time after breakfast.

Eligibility Criteria

This program is open to:

  • Any student who is enrolled in a Postgraduate Program in Business# at the University of Sunshine Coast.
  • An alumni of the University of Sunshine Coast who has studied and graduated from a Postgraduate Program in Business# at the University of Sunshine Coast, but you still need to enrol in MBA730 course as a visiting student+.
  • Cross-institutional students who wishes to do the tour, but you still need to enrol in MBA730 course as a visiting student+.

Program itinerary^

Siem Reap, Cambodia 

  • Cycling tour of the Angkor Temples.
  • Visit Angkor Wat, Bayon, and Ta Prohm.
  • Aspara Dance performance.
  • Company visits to agri-businesses including silk farm and lotus farm, as well as artisan businesses.
  • Siem Reap Night Market
  • Lunch at Sala Bai, a hospitality school supporting underprivileged students 

Phnom Penh, Cambodia

  • Koh Dach Island
  • Company visits to beverage and textile businesses
  • Australian Embassy
  • Visit to University of Technology, Cambodia 
  • Visit to Russian market
  • Farewell dinner 

At many of these visits, students will have the opportunity to ask questions, to get a greater understanding of doing business in Cambodia and what local and international businesses face in this region.

Program costs

This program is subsided by the School of Business and Creative Industries at UniSC to support you in your international studies. This does not include your course fee and international flight costs.

What is included?

  • Four-star hotel accommodation based on twin share (see single supplement costs below) .
  • Economy class domestic flight including taxes from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh.
  • Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner on most days.
  • An English-speaking national guide.
  • Airport transfers at Siem Reap and Phnom Penh.
  • All transport during the tour by private air-conditioned buses.
  • Cambodia Visa.

What is not included?

  • *Return International flights into Siem Reap and out of Phnom Penh (you can book your own flights, however you will need to agree to our Risk Assessment and be approved for travel by the university).
  • Single accommodation supplement $460 AUD.
  • Your passport
  • Any required vaccinations
  • Some meals (eg. the first and last day of the tour)
  • Drinks at meal times
  • Non program transportation costs

  • Personal gratuity of approximately 8AUD per day (to be discussed with students and organised prior to departure) 

Financial Assistance

OS-Help loan

Overseas Student HELP loans (OS-HELP) are provided by the Commonwealth government to eligible HECS-HELP students undertaking various international experiences for credit. This loan is added to your HELP debt and can be up to $6,913. Please visit the OS-Help website to read the eligibility criteria and further information.

*Please do not book flights until UniSC confirms the program, and you have been approved to travel. Follow the advice on airline selection from your course coordinator and UniSC Travel. Refer to the Insurance Information for Students

Cancellation and refund policy

As the School of Business and Creative Industries is subsidising the Program Fee (costs for accommodation, bus travel, tourist sites, meals and anything in the itinerary) for you, if we incur costs for your booking, and subsequent cancellation, we reserve the right to charge a cancellation fee.

If you cancel:

  • On or before 22nd August 2025: : No cancellation cost
  • After 22nd August 2025 and up until 19th September 2025: You may be charged a cancellation fee of $500, but this will subject to UniSC finding a person to replace your position on the study tour. We will do all that is possible to find a replacement person.
  • After 19th September 2025: Cancellation Fee A$500
