John McLeod Scholarship

The John McLeod Scholarship shall be awarded to mature age students enrolled in either Bachelor of Nursing, Bachelor of Laws, Bachelor of Criminology & Justice, Bachelor of Biomedical Science

The John McLeod Scholarship aims to support mature-age UniSC students enrolled in a nursing, law or medical program and provides financial assistance to offset the costs associated with tertiary study that can have a significant impact on a student's ability to further their education.

Each Scholarship is valued at $5,000 over one (1) year and paid to the recipient as follows:

  • $2,500 lump sum paid after Census date in Study Period 1 of the year awarded
  • $2,500 lump sum paid after Census date in Study Period 2 of the year awarded

Part-time and full-time recipients are eligible for the full scholarship (pro-rata will not be applied to part-time enrolment).

Please Note:  This scholarship is offered on a yearly basis through funds provided by an external donor. If funding is not available in any given year, the scholarship will not be awarded.

Eligibility
  • full-time or part-time continuing student having successfully completed a minimum of 96 units (8 Courses)
  • enrolled in a Bachelor of Nursing, Bachelor of Laws, Bachelor of Criminology & Justice, or Bachelor of Biomedical Science (or combined programs including one of these) at any UniSC campus
  • mature age (must have turned 25 by the commencement of Study Period 1 in the year the scholarship is awarded)
  • minimum grade point average (GPA) of 5.0
  • Australian citizen, New Zealand citizen, Permanent Australian Humanitarian Visa Holder or permanent resident of Australia.
Selection criteria
  • academic merit;
  • financial need;
  • hours worked in paid employment or commitment to activities that impact on the time available for the student to study (e.g. compulsory fieldwork placement, significant carer responsibilities) and other equity considerations.
